The Fun of Learning Chinese New Year Traditions at School

Published On: February 17, 2026

Hello, friends! This time, the Kindergarten A class learned about Chinese New Year. The celebration was held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, as part of our lesson on cultural diversity. The children listened attentively and with great curiosity to the story “The Legend of Nian”. From the story, they gained a better understanding of why the color red and loud sounds are often seen and heard during Chinese New Year celebrations. In addition, they learned about the history of angpao as a symbol of prayer and good wishes for the new year. They discovered that an angpao is not just a red envelope, but also carries the meaning of blessings and love.

As part of the learning activities, the children practiced saying Chinese New Year greetings such as: “Gong xi xin nian” and “Shang di zhu fu ni.” After that, laoshi distributed angpao as a symbol of one of the traditions observed during Chinese New Year. The children practiced receiving the angpao politely while saying, “Gong xi xin nian, shang di zhu fu ni.” After receiving it, they said, “Xie xie, Laoshi.”

This activity became a joyful learning experience for all of us, while also nurturing respect for cultural diversity.
