Indonesia Independence Day: Spirit of Struggle, Spirit of Youth
Eighty years ago, Indonesia declared its independence—a momentous occasion that continues to inspire pride and resilience. On 15 August 2025, Petra 13 Christian Elementary School commemorated this historic milestone through a series of meaningful and engaging activities.
From 11 to 14 August, students from Years 1 to 6 enthusiastically participated in a variety of competitions with their classmates. Events included a water relay race, a uniform dressing challenge, a chopstick ball transfer, and many more. The final rounds of these competitions were held on 15 August, coinciding with the main celebration.
The day began with a prayer, the singing of the national anthem “Indonesia Raya”, and a spectacular flag dance performance by the students. This was followed by a fun walk involving Year 1 pupils and their parents, adding a joyful family element to the occasion.
Among the highlights was the water relay race, where Year 6 students worked together to transfer water from one bowl to another—testing both speed and teamwork. Another lively event was the uniform dressing competition for Year 1, in which pupils raced to put on their school uniforms quickly and neatly. Laughter echoed throughout the venue as children tackled buttons and ties, cheered on by their peers.
Equally engaging was the chopstick ball transfer challenge from Year 3. This activity required patience and concentration, as students carefully moved small balls from one container to another using only chopsticks. The audience watched with anticipation, applauding each successful attempt.
Through these activities, Petra 13 Christian Elementary School not only celebrated Independence Day in a festive and inclusive manner, but also reinforced core values such as teamwork, perseverance, and unity in joy. The event left lasting memories for both students and teachers, strengthening the school’s sense of community and national pride.
