80 years ago, Indonesia declared its Independence Day. What a perfect day to celebrate the nation’s freedom and resilience! On August 15th, Petra 13 Christian Elementary school commemorated this historic moment with a series of meaningful and exciting activities. All students from grade 1 to grade 6 enthusiastically competed in various challenges with their classmates since 11th to 14th of August. The competitions included water relay race, putting on uniforms, picking up balls using chopsticks, and many more. The final rounds for those competitions were held on August 15th along with the celebration.

The celebration on August 15 began with a prayer, the singing of the national anthem “Indonesia Raya”, and a spectacular flag dance performance by the students, followed by a fun walk with parents grade 1. The celebration continued with the final rounds for the competitions.

Some of the highlights included the water relay race, where students grade 6 had to work together to pass water from one bowl to another, testing both speed and cooperation. Another exciting challenge from grade 1 was the putting on uniform’s competition, in which students raced to wear school uniforms as quickly and neatly as possible. Laughter filled the air as participants struggled with buttons and ties while their friends cheered them on.

Equally engaging from grade 3 was the moving balls using chopsticks competition. This activity tested patience and concentration as students carefully transferred small balls from one container to another using only chopsticks. The audience watched with excitement, applauding every successful move.

Through these activities, Petra 13 Christian Elementary School not only celebrated Independence Day in a festive way but also emphasized important values such as teamwork, perseverance, and joy in unity. The event created lasting memories for students and teachers alike, strengthening the school’s sense of community.
